Cyber Monday.
What do all these have in common? These three days Americans are urged to spend their money in preparation for the gift-giving season that climaxes on Christmas Day. Our consumer economy has most certainly learned how to capitalize on what many call, “The Season of Giving.”
God, by his very nature is a giver. God is generous beyond compare. You probably have a person in your family that stands out for his or her generosity. You probably know someone that is gives even at great expense to themself. But no one is as Generous as God in Christ, who gave himself up for us. God sets the standard for giving.
And the Bible is clear he has gifted us personally. That is, he has given each of us spiritual gifts. These can be God-given talents, abilities, wisdom and knowledge that we can offer to others. Our natural gifts can become spiritual gifts when we extend it to others by faith, for faith. We see this in the words of the Apostle Paul:
“I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.” (Romans 1:11-12, NIV)
When do gifts become gifts? When they’re given!
This month at Pilgrim Covenant Church, we’re going to capitalize on this “Season of Giving” by offering Spiritual Gifts to each other and our community. Come and join us, as we enter into the “Spirit of the Season!”
